Move Physiotherapy Beeliar — gym and rehabilitation space
Hip & Knee Osteoarthritis · Beeliar

Stronger legs.
Less pain. Eight weeks.

A small-group programme for adults with hip or knee osteoarthritis. Twice-weekly physio-led sessions combining education and supervised strength work — built on the evidence base behind GLA:D, with measurable before-and-after testing.

Next cohort starts the first week of June 2026. Classes are capped at 5 — if demand is there, we'll add more.

The Evidence

Supervised exercise works. The data is clear.

Every major clinical guideline — Australian, European, and American — recommends supervised exercise and education as the first-line treatment for hip and knee osteoarthritis, ahead of medication, injections, and surgery. The programme this is modelled on, GLA:D Australia, has now collected outcome data on more than 12,000 participants.

31%
Average reduction in knee pain
23% for hip pain
38%
Improvement in quality of life
For knee participants — 24% for hip
50%
Reduction in pain medication use
46% for hip participants
75%

of knee participants who wanted surgery before the programme reported they no longer wanted it after completing it. (63% for hip participants.)

Next cohort starts the first week of June. Small groups of 5 — additional classes added if demand calls for it.

What the Programme Entails

Eight weeks. Sixteen sessions. One small group.

A clear, structured programme that takes you from your initial assessment through to a final reassessment, with the same small group of people beside you the whole way.

1

Initial Assessment

A 1:1 consultation with Hugo. Suitability check, goals, and baseline VALD strength testing.

2

8 Weeks · 2× Per Week

Mondays and Thursdays at our Beeliar clinic. 60 minutes per session — about 15 minutes of education, then 45 minutes of supervised strength work.

3

Same Small Cohort

Up to 5 people per class, all starting and finishing together. The shared experience and accountability is part of why this works.

4

Final Reassessment

Repeat VALD testing and validated outcome questionnaire (KOOS or HOOS), a written summary, and a clear plan for what comes next.

The Education

What you will understand by the end.

Each week covers a different aspect of living well with osteoarthritis. By week eight, you understand your condition well enough to manage it independently — for years, not weeks.

01
What osteoarthritis actually is
And why "wear and tear" is a misleading way to describe it. The latest research on the condition explained plainly.
02
Exercising with pain — safely
How much pain is acceptable during and after exercise, and why pain does not always mean damage.
03
Managing flare-ups
A clear plan for when symptoms spike — what to do, what to avoid, and when to call us.
04
Medication: what helps and what does not
A practical look at paracetamol, anti-inflammatories, supplements, and injections — what the evidence actually says.
05
Diet, weight, and joint loading
How body weight, nutrition, and inflammation affect your joints — and which changes give the biggest return.
06
Sleep, pacing, and energy management
The everyday habits that make the biggest difference to how your joints feel.
07
Surgery — when to consider it, when not to
How to make an informed decision about injections, joint replacement, and other interventions.
08
Building habits that last
How to keep going after the eight weeks finish — independently, or with us.

Cost & Rebates

Clear pricing. Most people use private health.

Standard Rate

$960

For the full 8-week programme — 16 sessions at $60 each.

Your initial assessment is included. The 1:1 consultation with Hugo to check suitability, set goals, and get to know each other is part of the programme cost — not billed separately. Payment plans available.

With Private Health

~$20–30

Per session, out of pocket, with most extras-cover physiotherapy plans.

Actual rebate depends on your fund and level of cover. We can run a quote for your specific fund at the initial assessment — most participants find their out-of-pocket is in this range.

GP-referred via a Chronic Disease Management Plan? A CDM plan can cover up to five physiotherapy sessions per calendar year with a Medicare rebate. We accept these — bring your referral to your initial assessment and we'll work out how to apply it best.

Our Guarantee

If you don't improve, we refund you.

Almost no physiotherapy clinic in Australia will offer this. We do, because the evidence behind what we're doing is strong, and because we'd rather have happy clients than your money.

How it works

1

At your initial assessment, we agree on the specific objective measures we will track — your VALD strength scores, plus a validated outcome questionnaire (KOOS for knees, HOOS for hips). These are written down before you start.

2

You complete the full programme — at minimum 14 of the 16 sessions, plus the prescribed home work.

3

At the final reassessment, if you have not made measurable improvement on the agreed criteria, we refund the programme fees in full.

4

No improvement, no charge. That is the whole arrangement.

Common Questions

What people usually want to know.

I am in my 70s and haven't exercised in years. Is this for me?+
Yes — this is exactly who the programme is for. We start where you are. The first two weeks are about technique and learning the movements at very light loads. We have chair-supported and partial-range options for every exercise. Participants in programmes like this typically range from their 40s to their 90s.
Will exercise make my arthritis worse?+
No. This is the most common worry, and it is the opposite of what the evidence shows. Joints respond to progressive loading by becoming more tolerant, not less. Some discomfort during exercise is expected and acceptable; we teach you how to interpret it. The risk of doing nothing is much higher than the risk of doing this.
What if I have a flare-up during the eight weeks?+
We expect this. Flare-ups are part of OA, and a structured programme is one of the best contexts for managing them — because there is a physiotherapist watching you train every session. We modify on the day. Flare-ups are not a reason to stop; they are a reason to adjust.
Do I need a GP referral?+
No, you can book directly. A GP referral is helpful if you want to use a Chronic Disease Management Plan for the Medicare rebate, but it is not required.
I've had a hip or knee replacement. Can I still do this?+
Yes, provided you are at least three months post-surgery and have been cleared by your surgeon for general exercise. Many people find this is the bridge between standard post-surgical rehab and full return to activity.
What if I miss a session?+
We allow up to two missed sessions over the eight weeks without affecting your guarantee. We will give you a home programme to keep you on track for any session you cannot attend.
When does the next cohort start?+
The first week of June 2026, at our Beeliar clinic. Initial assessments are happening now — register your interest to secure a place.
How much does it cost with private health?+
For most people with extras-cover physiotherapy, the out-of-pocket is around $20–30 per session. Actual rebate depends on your fund and level of cover; we can run a quote for your specific fund at the initial assessment.

Next cohort: first week of June. Small groups of 5 — more added if demand is there.
