Remedial Massage, Delivered by a Physiotherapist

A dedicated hands-on massage appointment — the full session is remedial massage, delivered by a qualified physiotherapist and claimable under your physiotherapy private health cover.

Remedial Massage

What we treat & how we work

This is a massage appointment. The full session is hands-on remedial massage — deep tissue work, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and sports massage. If you have booked in for a massage, that is exactly what you will get.

The one difference from a typical massage is who delivers it. At Move Physiotherapy, remedial massage is now predominantly delivered by our physiotherapists. You get the same hands-on treatment, with the added reassurance of a qualified physiotherapist's knowledge of anatomy and injury behind every technique — and, because it is delivered by a physiotherapist, it is claimed under your physiotherapy private health cover, which often means a higher rebate.

What this appointment includes (and what it does not)

This appointment is focused on remedial massage. It includes a brief assessment so your therapist can treat the right areas effectively, followed by hands-on massage for the remainder of the session. It does not include a full physiotherapy assessment, exercise prescription, stretching programmes, or other physiotherapy modalities. If you are looking for a complete physiotherapy assessment with a rehabilitation plan, a standard physiotherapy appointment is the better fit — and remedial massage can be incorporated within that if needed. On pricing: a $97 offer applies to your first massage appointment. After that, follow-up massage appointments are available in 30, 45 and 60 minute durations.

Our Approach

The Move Process

01
Brief Assessment
A short check-in so your therapist understands your goals and can identify the right areas to treat. This is a focused assessment, not a full physiotherapy examination.
02
Hands-On Remedial Massage
The rest of your session is hands-on treatment — deep tissue work, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and sports massage applied where they will help most.
03
Targeted Relief
Treatment is focused on releasing tension, easing pain, and improving mobility in the areas that need it.
04
Simple Aftercare
Brief, practical advice to help your results last. Note this appointment does not include an exercise or rehabilitation programme — that is part of a standard physiotherapy appointment.

Common Questions

FAQs

Is this a real massage appointment?+
Yes. This is a dedicated remedial massage appointment — the full session is hands-on massage. The only difference from a typical massage is that it is delivered by a qualified physiotherapist rather than a massage therapist.
What does the appointment include?+
A brief assessment so your therapist can treat the right areas, followed by hands-on remedial massage for the rest of the session. It does not include a full physiotherapy assessment, exercise or stretching programmes, or other physiotherapy modalities. It is focused purely on massage treatment.
How is this different from a physiotherapy appointment?+
A standard physiotherapy appointment includes a thorough assessment, diagnosis, and a treatment plan that usually involves exercise prescription, education, and a range of physiotherapy techniques. This massage appointment has a limited assessment and the treatment is remedial massage only. If you want a full assessment and rehabilitation plan, book a standard physiotherapy appointment instead.
How much does it cost?+
Your first massage appointment is available from $97 as an introductory offer. After that, a massage appointment is priced the same as a standard physiotherapy appointment, because it is delivered by a physiotherapist. The benefit is that it is then claimed under your physiotherapy private health cover, which often returns a higher rebate than a remedial massage rebate would. Current fees are shown when you book online.
How do I claim this on private health insurance?+
Because the treatment is delivered by a physiotherapist, it is claimed under the physiotherapy item on your extras cover — not the remedial massage item. This is usually a positive: physiotherapy rebates are often higher than remedial massage rebates, so many people get more back. We process HICAPS rebates on the spot — bring your health fund card and you only pay the gap.
Do you still offer massage with a dedicated massage therapist?+
Yes. Amir Baraei, our remedial massage therapist, offers dedicated remedial massage appointments. Amir is in high demand and is often fully booked, so availability is limited — if you would like to see him specifically, we recommend booking well ahead. For most people, a massage appointment with one of our physiotherapists is more readily available.
What's the difference between remedial and relaxation massage?+
Remedial massage is clinically focused — it targets specific areas of dysfunction, injury, or pain using techniques chosen for a therapeutic outcome. Relaxation massage is primarily for stress relief and general wellbeing.
How much does a massage appointment cost?+
Your first massage appointment is available under a $97 introductory offer. After that, follow-up massage appointments are available in 30, 45 and 60 minute durations. Because the treatment is delivered by a physiotherapist, it is claimed under your physiotherapy private health cover, which often means a higher rebate than a remedial massage claim. Current fees are shown on our fees page and when you book online.
Do I need a referral?+
No referral is needed. You can book directly online or by phone.
