Physiotherapy for Groin Pain

Groin pain is a common, but often persistent problem affecting both athletes and the general population. This is because the source of groin pain can be widespread and therefore requires careful and extensive examination by an experienced health professional.

Your groin muscles are involved predominantly in activities that involve repetitive twisting and lunging, and in sports that involve frequent and rapid changes in direction, jumping, landing and kicking.

The management of this pain is varied and dependent on the structures causing your pain.

Most important in your assessment is understanding WHY your groin muscles are becoming overloaded. These muscles are typically smaller muscles that are only involved in the stability of our hips and pelvis.

This means that your groin pain may be caused by weaker muscles in the groin, but can also stem from a generalised weakness in the other more major muscle groups in the hips such as the gluteals.
