Children’s Physiotherapy

Children’s injuries can be a highly specialised field of physiotherapy. Often dismissed as ‘growing pains’, aches and pains in children can prevent engagement in physical activity which can have lasting effects through the lifespan.

Our team has extensive experience in treating children with musculoskeletal pain, with injuries such as:

  • Knee Pain – including ‘Maltracking Disorders’ and ‘Osgood Schlatters Disease’
  • Heel pain – including Severs Disease
  • Hip pain – such as Irritable Hip Syndrome and even Perthes Disease

Take for instance ‘Osgood Schlatter’s Disease’. This is an inflammation of the Patella Tendon as it inserts into the Tibia (front of the leg bone); and can range from a mild inflammation to a debilitating pain where the insertion of the patella tendon becomes a raised section of bone.

It is common for Physiotherapists to recommend rest, and perform an ineffective combination of taping, inner range quadriceps exercises or passive interventions such as ultrasound to minimal, if any effect. Many will neglect strengthening the posterior chain – providing an alternative group of muscles to take some lower limb load (if the hamstrings can take more load, that means less load moving through the quadriceps).

Unlike Move Physiotherapy, most clinics simply do not have a rehabilitation space to actually guide your child through a strengthening intervention.

Our physiotherapy team can perform an indepth biomechanical analysis of your child’s movements, identify areas of tightness and weakness; and provide an enjoyable intervention for your child. Often this intervention will focus on active strengthening-based exercise treatment.
