Dry Needling by a Physiotherapist
Dry Needling is a precise technique where a sterile, single-use needle is inserted directly into muscle trigger points—areas that traditional massage or stretching can’t always reach. These ultra-thin needles (about 0.30mm in diameter) help stimulate a natural muscle twitch response that enhances circulation, reduces pain, and improves movement.
Dry Needling is particularly effective for alleviating neck, upper trapezius, back and hip pain, though it is effective for treating a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries. It can target deeper muscular trigger points which are otherwise difficult to reach and treat with traditional massage or stretching.
Our treatments are delivered by experienced Physiotherapists and Remedial Therapists who have undergone specialised training in this technique. We offer Dry Needling at our Booragoon, East Fremantle and Beeliar locations.
The Move Physiotherapy Dry Needling Difference
At Move Physiotherapy, your Dry Needling appointment involves a comprehensive assessment and treatment designed to address both your immediate pain and its underlying causes. Your initial appointment will consist of:
- A subjective examination and discussion about your pain and injury.
- A movement screen where we can assess your areas of muscle and joint tightness.
- A dry-needling based treatment. This will commonly include other techniques such as remedial massage, joint mobilisations and other mobility work – tailored to you and your injury.
- A summary of findings; with a plan to completely address your pain and ensure this pain does not return.
Dry Needling treatments can be appropriately modified for each person – meaning they can be almost painless for those having their first treatments. As a general rule, as we move closer to the centre of the muscular trigger point – and twitch zone – there can be more ache associated with treatment.
