Your Top Rated Sports Physiotherapy Service
When dealing with sporting injuries, we find that athletes want answers to these questions:
- What is my injury?
- When can I return to sport?
- Why did it happen? How do we ensure it doesn’t happen again?
- What is the plan?
Sporting injuries are a niche and complex field of physiotherapy. Accurate testing of ligaments, tendon and muscle injuries require specific training. Protocols exist which can determine the need for referral for scans – such as X-Rays, Ultrasounds and MRIs. The accuracy of this testing, and prompt referral for further investigation depends on the skill of the physiotherapist.
Our team not only understands the technical side of physiotherapy—they’re passionate about sports. Move Physiotherapy boasts an experienced team with a diverse sporting background in Basketball, Crossfit and Weightlifting, AFL and Netball.
The Move Physiotherapy Approach
Effective Sports Physiotherapy begins with accurate diagnosis. For traumatic injuries this includes ligament testing which can accurately predict the severity of an injury without the need for an ultrasound or MRI. When a significant injury or rupture is predicted, our therapists can directly refer you for these scans.
For soft-tissue injuries including strains and tears, we have accurate diagnostic tools such as Force Plates and dynamometers. With these tools we bring technology previously only available to elite sporting clubs to the general population; allowing us to accurately measure strength and rates of force development. Initially, we can use this data to accurately diagnose your extent of injury. In later rehab we can use this data to ensure you have regained your strength and power; and will not suffer future injury when you return to your sport.
In the case of non-traumatic injuries, it is not just enough to diagnose your injury – but we must have an understanding of WHY this injury has occurred. For example, the majority of ACL knee injuries occur in non-traumatic situations. They have up to 7x frequency in female sports compared to males. We need to understand your biomechanics and strength in order to prevent risk of future injury.
In the case of recurrent soft-tissue injuries – calf strains, hamstring strains etc – we must identify deficits and imbalances in strength which may be overloading the continually injured area. For example, for the recurrent strained calf – this may be due to a weakness in the calf itself, or a weakness in associated areas such as the hamstrings, glutes or hip flexors which are causing the calf to become overloaded.
Once an accurate diagnosis has been made – and contributing factors identified – your physiotherapist must have an understanding of the demands of your sport to design an appropriate rehabilitation plan. This is where Move Physiotherapy excels.
We can employ techniques such as joint mobilisations, dry needling, remedial massage and more to restore movement following injury. We can advise on the exercise you can perform whilst injured, all whilst ensuring the proper rehabilitation for your injury.
