Here at Move Physiotherapy we have put together a series of Mood Hacks for those moments where life gets you down.
1. Exercise
Most of us are aware of ‘Runners High’. Exercise naturally boosts the release of endorphins, which are our feel-good chemicals in our brain. The good news, is you don’t have to run a marathon to get the release of these endorphins. If your mood starts to slip, get yourself moving, take a 10-minute walk or engage in some other type of activity to get your blood pumping and mood rising.
Looking at getting started on your exercise journey? Move Physiotherapy offers 1:1 supervised gym sessions with a physiotherapist. To book one of these appointments, head across to our book online page and book your initial physiotherapy consultation.
2. Nourish the Body
It is no secret that we are what we eat. We often feel pretty ordinary after a night out on alcohol and greasy food. Similarly, we can nourish our body to improved emotional health. A number of foods have been identified to improve our mental well-being including oily fish, berries, yoghurt and leafy greens.
More and more research is being linked between gut health and our mental state. So, as a natural boost to your mental state- start with a healthy and nutritious meal!
3. Practice Gratitude
Start or end the day by writing down three things for which you are grateful. When a bad mood or down spirit starts to loom, use this exercise to reframe your thinking and focus energy on the positive. By looking at the positive aspects of life, it’s possible to change the pattern of thinking, thus leading to a happier outlook on life in general.
4. Unplug
There’s drama to be found in social media, pop culture and the news, and it’s easy to get caught up in the riptide of the unpleasant aspects of the modern world. If too much negativity is pulsing through your news feed, shut it off, walk away and read a book or simply sit quietly. Take it a step further and leave your phone behind when you take microbreaks throughout the day.
